BVZL & ELSA Munich conference highlights AIFMD implications for secondary life insurance market

BVZL ELSA logoSL Investment management delegates, Louise Witts (Senior Actuary) and Dirk Strontschak (Fund Manager), attended the joint BVZL\ELSA conference in Munich on 29th September 2014. This annual event provides a unique opportunity for attendees to gain valuable insight into significant issues affecting the secondary life insurance markets of Germany, UK and the US.

One of the main areas of focus for SL Investment Management in attending the conference was to engage in industry discussion on evolving European legislation; especially in relation to the Alternative Investment Fund Manager Directive (AIFMD); which after a one year transitional period finally came into force on 22 July 2014.

Dirk commented, "It's clear that many market players continue to try their best to steer clear of the AIFMD regulation. In our view the regulation is here to stay, and this is simply phase one of an ongoing process. The companies that accept this and embrace the change will be the parties better placed to service clients' needs in the future".
