International Mortality and Longevity Symposium 2014

IFoA logoSL Investment management delegates, Louise Witts (Senior Actuary) and Frederick Bell (Actuarial Analyst) recently attended the International Mortality and Longevity Symposium, hosted by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) in Birmingham, UK.

The symposium offered a unique opportunity to gain insight into the latest thinking on mortality and longevity from around the world; and how the latest developments can be applied to current decision making by business and policy makers alike.  Delegates hailed from academia, think tanks, the medical and demographer professions, along with attendees from both UK and overseas businesses.

Frederick Bell said, "The presentations were predominantly based upon analysis conducted on US population data; hence, extremely relevant to our expertise in the area of US Life Settlements. The 'underwriting practices' and 'future trends in longevity' sections were of particular interest, as well as discussion on conditions, such as obesity, and how to quantify the impact of these on mortality rates."

For a more detailed summary of the presentations given at the symposium, please contact Louise or Frederick direct.
